In every community and society, no matter how small that might be, education constitutes an imperative need for every person.

Originally, the residents of Oikos attended the school of Kalopanayiotis since there was no school in their community. Later on, testimonies reveal the existence of a school in the village, at a location near the church of Agia Varvara, the establishment and operation of which is not adequately confirmed due to the limited available sources. 

The Primary School of Oikos, as we know it today, was established in 1926-27, offering the residents of the community basic education.

Any information regarding the exact number of pupils per school year is lacking. However, according to verbal sources, the number of pupils up until the decade of the 1940s was between 30 and 40 per school year. Of course, this number would most probably rise and fall considering the following information which concern student enrolments from 1974 to 2002, when the Primary School of Oikos closed down and was transferred to the Regional Primary School of Marathasa in Kalopanayiotis.
